23. THE DEMISE OF NOTTINGHAM VICTORIA STATION A collection of 78 photographs taken in the Nottingham area around 1967 when the huge Victoria Station was closed and just before the demolition gangs moved in. There are three good ‘rial views showing its location in the city, views of the tunnels, Carrington Street Station between the tunnels, scenes of rusting rails overgrown with weeds in the Basford and Bulwell districts, a disused signal box and one still operating (Linby), a few goods trains still trundling through Victoria after it had been closed to passengers, locomotives serving out their final months: an ex-LMS Duchess minus nameplate, a couple of Royal Scots (one with nameplate), an assortment of ex-LNER locos all in pretty dreadful condition at the end of their service.
